While learning the many magazine conventions, I found them very easy to remember and understand. When it came to reasoning behind specific design choices on magazine covers, it all seems obvious and makes good sense. Because of this, i found it very easy to understand and remember the conventions of a magazine cover.
My genre choice is derived from the picture that I personally took at Rolling Loud Miami 2024. I used the image to convey the theme and genre of music. To be more specific, my magazine is supposed to cover everything music related, like new releases or big upcoming shows. My magazine conveys this with every coverline talking about something music related. For example, it covers fashion in music, cheap tickets, and upcoming festivals.
The conventions I used include coverlines, a main coverline, a title, a boxout, a banner, and bright and noticeable fonts. The yellow and purple contrasts to make it eye catching, as well as to highlight certain words or phrases. This highlighting is used with red and white. The coverlines help bring interest and curiosity as to what the magazine has inside. Reading the topics of interest will draw in those who are into music.
Some challenges I had were first understanding how to create certain things. For example, it took me a little bit to get used to how to change the color, font, and other characteristics of a box of text.
In addition, I also found difficulty in figuring out how to correctly size text in order for it to fit into the text box correctly without any cut offs.
